The Hunger Who Hears His Skin
Each family’s dearest child, the Voice of the River had said. A Hemlock jewel for a Hawthorn flower, and peace for all the land.

Riverwood is a city ruled by witch families, fed by the magic of the Veilwater and growing under the shadow of its divine sister city, now ruins in the swamp. The Hawthorns and Hemlocks have been locked in a war for centuries and Riverwood has been bled dry from the conflict. Comes, then, an idea for a resolution: an exchange. A Hemlock jewel for a Hawthorn flower, and peace for all the land.
Sage is the Hemlock chosen as an olive branch, given to the Hawthorns at ten years old. Lore is the Hawthorn who stays while his baby sister is given away. They grow together, and closer, and peace seems within reach - and then not possible at all.
